Mina Zikri, Music Director
Mina Zikri, Oistrach Symphony Orchestra Music Director, is a violinist, teacher, and conductor. Mr. Zikri has been a standing member of Daniel Barenboim’s West Eastern Divan orchestra since 1999. He has also been a member of the Northbrook Symphony since 2003, and is a former member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Additionally, Mr. Zikri is the music director and founder of the Oistrach Symphony Orchestra, and is currently a faculty member of the Depaul University Community Music Division. Mr. Zikri was named one of twelve finalists out of 223 candidates from 40 countries in the second Gustav Mahler international conducting competition held in 2007 in Bamberg, Germany. He served as guest conductor for the Cairo Symphony Orchestra in February 2010 and will make a return engagement in January 2011. From June to August of 2010 Mr. Zikri also attended the American Academy of Conducting at the Aspen Music Festival in Aspen, Colorado on a fellowship. Mr. Zikri is a De Paul university graduate where he earned a Bachelors degree, a Masters degree, and a performer’s certificate in violin.

Dmitri Pogorelov, Concertmaster
Dmitri is a critically acclaimed violinist who has won prestigious chamber music competitions in his native Russia at an early age, which led to numerous appearances in chamber music recitals and solo performances with orchestras in the USA, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, and Russia. Dmitri has appeared in chamber music concerts with principal players of Chicago, Houston, Saint Louis and Seattle Symphonies, Cleveland and Concertgebouw Orchestras, San Francisco, Chicago Lyric, and Frankfurt State Opera orchestras. As part of Dmitri’s interest in contemporary chamber music, he has recently recorded works by Eric Ewazen, Gunther Schuller, and Yehudi Wyner for Albany Records. A seasoned orchestral performer, Dmitri has worked under Pierre Boulez, Bernard Haitink, Sir Mark Elder, and Esa-Pekka Salonen as concert master of the Chicago Symphony’s Civic Orchestra. Dmitri is currently an adjunct violin teacher on the faculty of Lenoir-Rhyne University in NC.
