Community Outreach
An important aspect of the Oistrach Symphony’s mission is to make live classical music accessible to children. Our youth today have a lot of choices when it comes to listening to and playing music. Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, Dance, Alternative, and Rap dominate the airwaves. Sadly, Classical Music often takes a “back seat”. Listening to, and especially playing, classical music often requires patience, thoughtfulness, and discipline, (attributes not always valued in our fast-paced, automated, modern society) for the listener to fully appreciate the vibrancy, beauty, and passion of this very special musical tradition.
The Oistrach Symphony Orchestra is actively working on a collaboration with Classical Kids Music Education and the Chicago Opera Theatre to create Music Inspires! an educational outreach program piloted in January of 2012 and to be launched in September of 2012 to four Chicago Public Schools located in Chicago south side and west side neighborhoods.
The purpose of the Music Inspires! is to bring the joys of classical music and the extraordinary life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to children in under-served communities. Music Inspires! is a week-long, elementary school program culminating with a live theatrical concert performance that features the Oistrach Symphony Orchestra underscoring the world-famous Classical Kids Live! stage production, Mozart’s Magnificent Voyage.
